What was your favorite Christmas present ever?
One of my favorite Christmas presents was when I was 8 years old. I wanted this doll that crawled, the eyes opened and closed, and made cooing sounds when she crawled. The name of the doll was the Oopsy Daisy Crying Crawling baby. I had been asking for two years for her. I still remember that Christmas morning at my grandparents house like it was yesterday. It still brings me so much joy when I think back to that moment with my family.
What has God been teaching you through the kids in this Christmas season?
Patience. As the bible says in
James 1:3, patience is developed through tests and trials. Learning the dynamics of my children and having patience can most of the time result in a positive solution. Having patience helps parents effectively deal calmly and rationally with day to day problems. My two children teach me this everyday. It's like playing a game of Scrabble. You need patience for when your child is telling you about their problems because as kids they want to tell you about every detail (and I mean
every
detail). I have learned that those details are what is important to them. Staying focused and listening to them teaches all of us in our family how to communicate better. Someone told me years ago when I was so frustrated with my own kids to pretend your child is not yours for a minute. Just think about that. We always have patience for others in ways we don’t have for our own. Since then I have always tried to model patience in that, but in all honesty, they are the ones teaching me daily.
What do you want others to know about Kids Ministry?
Our kids' ministry is FUN!!! We love working with our little and big friends. We love teaching them that GOD loves them and wants a relationship with them. We love creativity and we love seeing them GROW through our program as they learn what it means to be children of God.
